Privacy policy
Unramble is an iPhone app that edits your talking videos. This policy explains what leaves your iPhone, where it goes, what is kept and for how long. Unramble is made by JCDP (“we”), who is responsible for your data. Questions: support@tryunramble.com.
The short version
- Your video stays on your iPhone. The picture is never uploaded. Cutting, captions and the export happen on your phone.
- The sound goes to ElevenLabs, only to write down every word with its timing.
- The words go to OpenAI and Anthropic: OpenAI's GPT chooses your best takes and groups the captions, Anthropic's Claude checks the cut and suggests titles. Neither uses them to train its models.
- No account, no ads, no tracking. The app doesn't know your name, email or Apple ID (only the waitlist on our website asks for an email, see below).
- You can delete it all in Unramble › Settings › Delete my data.
What leaves your iPhone
Only after you agree on the “How Unramble edits your video” screen, and only while the switches in Unramble › Settings are on:
- The audio of the clips you edit. It passes through our server to ElevenLabs, which turns it into text with timings. Our server doesn't store it.
- The transcript and your edit settings. The words (with timings), plus text from your brand kit such as your call to action and names you added, go through our server to OpenAI's GPT, which picks the takes and groups the captions into phrases, and to Anthropic's Claude, which reviews the cut, writes hook titles and suggests graphics (and picks the takes when GPT isn't available).
- Your subscription receipt. When you subscribe or open the app, it sends the App Store's signed receipt, so our server can check your plan. It contains an anonymous transaction number, the plan and its dates, not who you are.
- Problem reports. When a step fails or the app crashes or freezes, it sends a technical report: which step, the error code and message (with file names taken out), the app and iOS version, the iPhone model and, for crashes, where in the app's code it happened. Never your video, audio, words or who you are. Turn them off in Unramble › Settings › Send problem reports.
What our server keeps
- Your plan record, filed under the App Store's anonymous transaction number: your plan, whether it's a trial, the current billing period, how many videos you've made this period, what the AI cost this period, and up to ten random install numbers (one per app install). Kept while you're a subscriber, or until you delete it.
- Per-video counters: how many times each AI step ran for a video, so one video can't be re-run endlessly. Deleted after 120 days.
- Recent answers: the result of each AI step is kept for 24 hours, so a request your phone retries (for example after losing signal) isn't run or counted twice. Deleted automatically, usually within a day after that.
- Technical logs: for each request, its type, cost, duration and word count, never the audio or the words; and Google Cloud's standard request logs, with the IP address and device type of each request. Kept for 30 days.
- Problem reports, without anything that says who sent them. Kept for 30 days.
- Messages from Apple about renewals, refunds and cancellations, with their transaction numbers. Kept for 30 days.
Our server runs on Google Cloud in the European Union (Belgium), with its data stored in Google Firestore in Europe.
What stays on your iPhone
Your videos, projects, transcripts, brand kit and editing style are stored on your iPhone only. Deleting the app deletes them. Videos you save to Photos stay in Photos.
The waitlist
If you join the waitlist on our website, your email address (and, if you came from a link of ours, where that link was posted) goes to Kit, the service we use to send our emails. Kit sends you an email to confirm, then we only email you when Unramble launches and, at most, a few short updates before that. Every email has an unsubscribe link. We don't share the list with anyone else and delete it at the latest 12 months after launch; email support@tryunramble.com to be taken off it sooner.
Who processes your data for us
- Google Cloud (hosting and database, European Union).
- ElevenLabs (speech to text): the audio. ElevenLabs privacy policy.
- OpenAI (GPT): the transcript and edit settings, to choose takes and group captions. Sent with storage turned off; OpenAI doesn't use API data to train its models. OpenAI privacy policy.
- Anthropic (Claude): the transcript and edit settings. Anthropic doesn't use this data to train its models. Anthropic privacy policy.
- Apple handles payments and subscriptions. We never see your payment details.
- Kit (email for the waitlist): your email address, if you join the waitlist on our website. Kit privacy policy.
ElevenLabs, OpenAI, Anthropic and Kit may process data in the United States. Where data leaves the European Economic Area, it is covered by their data processing terms, including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. We don't sell or share your data with anyone else, and nothing is used for advertising.
Why we use it (legal basis)
- To edit your videos and run your subscription: to provide the service you asked for (performance of a contract).
- Sending audio and transcripts to ElevenLabs, OpenAI and Anthropic: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the switches in Unramble › Settings (the AI editing then stops working).
- The waitlist: your consent, given when you join and confirm by email. Withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing or emailing us.
- Logs, limits and problem reports: our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure, working and affordable. You can turn problem reports off at any time.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected or deleted, object to its use or take it elsewhere. The quickest way to delete it is Unramble › Settings › Delete my data, which removes your plan record, counters and recent answers from our server straight away. It doesn't cancel your subscription: do that in the App Store. For anything else, email support@tryunramble.com. Because we don't know who you are, we may ask for the transaction number from your App Store receipt. You can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Unramble isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly process their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date. For important changes, the app tells you before they apply.
